Today, I introduce the business hours of museums in Tokyo on the first three days of the New Year.


If you travel in Japan at the New Year, please check the business hours in advance.

Many shops and facilities close.


1.Edo Tokyo Museum


Edo Tokyo Museum is a museum which you can know the lives of people from Edo period to Syowa period (from 1603 to 1989).

Edo period is an interesting time because a lot of cultures were developed.

To know the lives of general people means to know the real history of Japan.

2.Nezu Museum

Nezu Museum is a museum of a great collection of old Japanese paintings, ceramics, archeological treasures, calligraphy, and lacquerware.

As if you escape from the hustle and bustle of the big city, Tokyo, you will find tranquility behind the building.

3.Samurai Museum

Opening hours

It opens as usual all days, even at the end of the year and the New Year.

Opening hours: 10:30 am ~9:00 pm (final entry is 8:30 pm)




4.Sumo Museum in Ryogoku Kokugikan

Sumo Museum is a museum to know Sumo’s history and culture.


Opening Hours

It closes from December 27th to January 3rd.

It will open on January 4th. (10:00 am~ 4:30 pm)


*From January 8th, you need to get Sumo tickets to enter Sumo Museum.




5.Tokyo National Museum

Tokyo National Museum is the oldest museum in Japan.

It has 87 national treasures, 634 important cultural properties.

It has 116,932 collections.


Opening Hours

It closes from December 24th to January 1st.

It will open on January 2nd.
